The Creed of the Muslims at the time of the Companions and those who followed them (The Taabi’een) was universally accepted and well known. It came from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah and what the Messenger of Allaah left them upon.
The religion was strong and Islaam was powerful and noble. The people of evil used to conceal themselves and did not openly display their evil. So when the best generations came to an end, evils became apparent and the people of misguidance openly declared their deviancy…
…Allah bestowed insight and intelligence on him (Shaykhul Islaam Muhammad bin ‘Abdil Wahhaab) which enabled him to understand what the people were upon. From the time of his youth, he used to read, observe and study the books of Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Shaykhul Islam Ibnul Qayyim… So he started his call to Islaam upon insight and guidance.
At this point in time, the evil people began to deceive the people by saying that Ibn ‘Abdil Wahhaab wanted to change the religion of the Muslims and that he had come with a new religion and that he had come to pronounce judgment that the Muslims were disbelievers and so on and so forth.
For this reason, the people of Qaseem wrote to the Shaykh to ask him…
So the Shaykh (may Allaah have mercy upon him) wrote this Creed to clarify his Creed and to show that his Creed was the same Creed as that of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah and that he did not come with anything new and that furthermore, what was ascribed to him were lies.
