The Mother of the Book & Integral Aspect of the Prayer
Sheikh Saalih ibn Abdul-Aziz Aal Ash-Shaikh
Regarding the Opening Chapter of the Book, the prophet ﷺ named it in that which is reported within the Sahih, the Magnificent Qur’an, and the Seven Oft-Recited Verses.
He ﷺ said:
“The opening of the Book is the seven oft-repeated verses and the Magnificent Qur’an which I have been given”
The Qur’an is commenced with the Opening Chapter of the Book. It is also called Umm Al-Qur’an (the Mother of the Qur’an) and Umm Al-Kitab (the Mother of the Book)This is because this Book commences with it. Also because the prayer is commenced with it. This reasoning was mentioned by Al-Bukhari within his SahihThis is also due to the fact that all of the meanings of the Qur’an are embodied within this tremendous Surah; therefore, it is the Mother of the Qur’an since the Meanings of the Qur’an are embodied within. the meanings that are within this Surah. This will be abundantly clear to you once you begin to understand it or after (studying) its explanation.
